Tell us a bit about your business

"I work as a costume maker and digital embroiderer for film, television and theatre. I work in-house for film and television productions, therefore I do not have a permanent studio. I have provided embroidery for projects such as Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Queen Charlotte: a Bridgerton Story and most recently Wicked the movies for Universal which will come out later this year."

When did you start working with Stocks?

"Since 2019 I was in touch with Pete Tarrant who showed me a ZSK during a training session. I was intrigued right away. I then used Jacky Puzey’s Racer to embroider work for the Royal Opera House. I had enquired about buying a machine a few times. However then covid happened.
During the lockdown I was thinking a lot about my future and what I wanted to do. I got the opportunity to visit ZSK in Germany in July 2020, to talk a bit more about what I wanted and which machine would be good. I always had my eye on a Sprint 7XL.
I started off with a second hand embroidery machine from a different make. It proved a good investment. When I got confirmed to go onto Wicked I knew it was time to buy a ZSK, because I also wanted a sequin and beading device. I got the machine October 2022."

What is the latest piece of equipment you have purchased from Stocks?

"The Sprint XL with twin sequins and twin beading devices."

Why did you choose this equipment? What do you think are its main advantages?

"Mainly the precision option of the start point with the drop needle function. I need to line up different pieces quite often so this is really helpful. I also like that whatever you program is really what it will do. Sometimes with other makes, it will auto adjust some settings which is not always what I want. And because I was recommended ZSK by multiple people. And I went to Printwear and Promotion to see them at work as well."

Is there anything you’d like to see in an upgrade or don’t particularly like about it?

"The XL has no space above or behind the arm. I sometimes need to embroider further into the fabric so I have fabric left over at the back which there is no space for. It would be really useful but I know that is probably tricky."

What type of work is it used for?

"I work solely for costume work for film and television and some theatre. I did try to create a luxury bag, however I haven’t found the right market for this yet."

Does your latest machine work in combination with your other machines?

"No, the other machine is a Happy Japan."

Why did you choose to purchase your equipment from Stocks?

"Recommendation and quality of German products. And with it being bought from Stocks you get the aftercare and warranty."

What would be your advice to others thinking of buying equipment from Stocks?

"It will be worth the investment if you know you get the work. And go for the biggest you can get and might need."
